Pharmaceuticals Named Among Top 15 Biotech
Companies of 2003 By FierceBiotech Aderis
Pharmaceuticals was selected from more than
1,000 privately held biotech companies for their
vision, management expertise and overall
potential to change how doctors treat disease. Hopkinton,
MA - Feb
3, 2003 - Aderis
Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company
with four product candidates in clinical
development for the treatment of central nervous
system, cardiovascular and renal disorders,
today announced that it has been selected as one
of “The Fiercest 15” biotechnology companies
of 2003 by FierceBiotech, an internationally
recognized email newsletter for the biotech
industry. Aderis Pharmaceuticals was selected
from more than 1,000 privately held biotech and
medical device companies for their vision,
management expertise, and overall potential to
change how doctors treat disease. “Effective
treatments for central nervous system disorders
remain few and far between,” said Kevin
DeGeeter, editor of FierceBiotech. “We think
Aderis has a portfolio of winning drug
candidates.” Aderis
Pharmaceuticals’ lead product candidate,
rotigotine CDS, is currently in Phase III
clinical trials for the treatment of
Parkinson’s disease. It recently successfully
completed a Phase II trial for the treatment of
Restless Legs Syndrome. Rotigotine CDS, a novel
dopamine agonist formulated as a once-a-day
transdermal patch, delivers a steady level of
medication over a 24-hour period, an approach
that could potentially prevent side effects and
symptoms caused by currently available oral
therapies. The Company, with its partners, is
also conducting late-stage clinical trials with
product candidates for the treatment of atrial
fibrillation and the diagnosis of cardiovascular
disease. The Company has also begun development
of a product candidate to treat diabetic foot
ulcers. "Aderis
Pharmaceuticals’ possesses many qualities that
we believe differentiate us from other companies
in our field, including proven skill in
designing and conducting early-stage clinical
trials to identify promising candidates; the
necessary alliances with larger pharmaceutical
partners to carry these products to market; and
the guidance of a management and advisory team
with extensive industry experience," said
Peter Savas, Chairman, President and Chief
Executive Officer of Aderis Pharmaceuticals.
"We are very pleased to be recognized by
FierceBiotech for our excellence in drug
development." The Fiercest 15
celebrates the spirit of being “fierce” –
daring to be innovative and forward-looking,
even in a difficult market environment. The list
is available in today’s issue of FierceBiotech
and on the FierceBiotech Web site at
www.fiercebiotech.com. FierceBiotech is
a daily email briefing read by more than 20,000
executives in more than 75 countries. Since its
inception in October 2001, FierceBiotech has
been recognized as a must-read source of news
and intelligence for the biotech industry. About Aderis
