Give Public Health Davies Award Winners
An Ounce of Prevention and a Pound of
Cure for Health Management
HIMSS announces three award recipients
of the first Public Health Davies Award
CHICAGO
(November 17, 2004) - Pennsylvania's
National Electronic Disease Reporting
System (PA-NEDSS), South Dakota's
Electronic Vital Records and Screening
System (SD-EVRSS) and the Utah Statewide
Immunization Information System (USIIS)
are the first winners of the Nicholas E.
Davies Award of Excellence for Public
Health. The winners will be featured
presenters at the Davies Symposium to be
held at the 2005 Annual HIMSS Conference
& Exhibition in Dallas, Texas on
Feb. 13-17.
The SD-EVRSS
serves a vast community including the
public requesting copies of birth, death
or marriage certificates or other
records; and hospitals, healthcare
professionals and medical examiners who
are required to report information to
the South Dakota Department of Health
and state and federal agencies in
implementing programs to improve the
health of the state's citizens.
According to Kathlene Mueller, manager
of the Office of Data, Statistics and
Vital Records, the essential purpose of
the EVRSS is to improve the timeliness
and quality of vital event information
reported to the South Dakota Department
of Health.
At the
core of SD-EVRSS is QS Technologies' QSTVRS
Vital Records product. The
flexibilty of QSTVRS supports not only
Vital Records Events in South Dakota,
but also Newborn Hearing and Metabolic
Screening.
The
Davies Award program was originally
created by CPRI-HOST in 1995. The
program honors Dr. Nicholas Davies, an
Atlanta-based physician who was
committed to improving patient care
through the use of health information
technology.
